Music is my world. It is how I process everything. The eyes I wear are the lyrics and sounds that fill my mind, heart, and soul on a daily basis. From artists, to albums, playlists, and songs, music is arguably the one entity that means the most to me on earth. I would argue the same goes for most anyone in my generation.
My love for certain acts got me thinking: I should tell everyone the impact and meaning they have to me. Here's a quick primer for the series:
• I know opinions change - so instead of making this a cemented list, it will be a revolving, ever fluctuating list. As I hear new artists or grow in my love for ones I already know (or lose respect for current artists), the list is subject to change and updates, however and whenever.
• Success (money, awards, and overall recognition) is out the window as this list is based solely on what I - and I alone - prefer. The artists represent a wide variety of musical styles and tastes including: Jazz, Rock, Pop, Traditional Pop, Funk, and R&B to name a few. Some of the artists you're sure to know and even love, some you might not know at all.
• Oh. I should mention now that there is no country, so sorry to all you die-hard fans. It's the one genre I just can't do. And if you say "You just haven't tried it Merrick," well, oh by golly... I have. My whole childhood revolved mostly around country due to seven older sisters (yes, seven) who all liked it in varying degrees, including one who may just be the biggest fan of the genre I know.
• I won't ever have more than 12 artists listed. It can be less though. Say I truly only love eight artists? I thus have eight posted.
As I share my love for any said musician(s) - learn, listen, and enjoy them as they will all have had an impact on myself and my view on the word; my hope is that they do so for you. Maybe not in the same ways, but hopefully in a way that is unique to you and your life.
Music is my world. These artists embody that world. So learn, listen, and enjoy, as I continuously expound upon the impact they've had on me and my life.
