Cars 3 Review: Forgettable to say the least

While it certainly didn’t help that I was hoping to see Trey Edward Shults psycho/horror film It Comes at Night in place of this latest Disney Pixar collaboration, Cars 3 was not a film to get people talking over. A dull flick that tries to recapture the magic of the first film, it relies solely on nostalgia, cheesy lines (that mostly fell flat), and fails to add anything new or exciting to the franchise.

Following an older Lightning McQueen, he now faces a generation of new racers that are far more advanced than he and his fellow racers are. With the media saying he must retire due to his inability to keep up with the youngsters, McQueen seeks out new ways to train and rebuild to get back into the game.

Cars 3 delivers only a few exciting moments to go along with the tedious plot that had me zoning out and waiting for the end race which despite some excitement still failed to make up for the rest of the film. Heck, it's short preceding the feature film was better and more entertaining and even that paled in comparison to past animated shorts by Pixar.

Aside from it’s superb animation, Cars 3 is a forgettable film that doesn’t add anything to the genre. Pixar didn’t strike out with this sports-comedy - but they sure didn’t get a hit either.

Final grade: 4/10
